L’AND Vineyards
Category: Hotels
Location: Montemor-o-Novo, Portugal
L’AND Vineyards is not only a hotel and winery, but also has its own Michelin-starred restaurant, which focuses on highlighting Portuguese history and local culture.
Local producers, dedicated to organic farming, provide fruits, vegetables, cheese, and aromatic herbs.
One of its most distinct features is its design – sleek and minimalist, reminiscent of the style made popular through Wallpaper* magazine’s editorials. Walls are white, floors are dark, and many of the interior details are signed Tom Dixon.
There are several options for rooms, from private villas to spacious suites as well as retreats located outside the resort, but with only 30 units in total, the hotel never feels crowded.
This is mirrored in the personalised service from the staff, which includes a daily complimentary wine tasting of the estate’s own wine.
There are two main swimming pools, one indoors and one outside, by the large lake. In addition, the villas have their own pools. All pools are sustainably built from local stone, slate and wood.
The entire compound has been constructed for comfort and relaxation. It is easy to unwind here, especially as the food is of such excellent quality, served on china from Portugal’s oldest porcelain manufacturer, Vista Alegre.
The man behind the project is architect Marcio Kogan, of the MK27 Studio in São Paulo, and his main idea was to combine minimalist aesthetics with unspoiled nature.
The sixty-six acres of vineyards and woodlands create perfect conditions for stargazing, as there is very little light pollution in the area.
This is also why eleven of the hotel’s twenty-two suites have roofs that open towards the sky.
However one doesn’t have to look to the sky to enjoy the amenities. The suites are 120 square metres large, including terraces with open fire and private patios.
All floors are heated, and the sheets are made from Egyptian linen. L’AND is also the host to Vinotherapy Spa, which offers a unique experience, basing their treatments on local grapes and other natural products.
